CAREER READINESS
Expand the Early College program to more MCPS high schools which is a dual enrollment program with Montgomery College that allows students to receive both their high school diploma and associates degree.
Expand the senior half-day program to all MCPS high schools in Montgomery County for seniors to spend time in their last year of high school in a job or internship that interests them.
Increase communication about apprenticeship/internship programs that students can take during their senior year of high school.
Promote MCPS tuition reimbursements for students seeking to earn a degree in education and return to MCPS as an educator.
Enhance communication about college and career readiness resources, including scholarships, facilitating the application process, internship opportunities, CTE programs, and opportunities to connect with various career paths.
Work with MCPS to explore the implementation of a one-semester financial literacy graduation requirement or at least a more clearly defined financial literacy course for students.
Advocate to the Maryland State Department of Education to remove unnecessary graduation requirements to free up space in students’ schedules to take classes they are interested in. Changes I support include:
Reducing Health back to a one-semester credit
Removing the Technology credit
Adding a one-semester financial literacy credit
Allowing an athlete’s involvement on a school sports team to count towards their PE credit.
